EXECUTIVE MEETING

BURNABY, B.C.

NOVEMBER 20, 1999

The meeting was called to order by the President at 9:43A.M. Present: Sam Tomasevic (President), Annie Rayner (Secretary), Dick Hopkins (Treasurer), Dorothy Butts (Past President), Fred Ormiston (Island/Powell River Rep), Bill Roos (Island/Powell River Assistant Rep), Marcel Pinette (Lower Mainland Rep), Louis Levesque (Nothern Rep).

READING OF MINUTES

The minutes of the last Annual General Meeting were read by the Secretary Annie Rayner. Motion: Dick Hopkins, Seconded Louis Levesque "That the minutes be adopted as read". Vote taken, carried.

CORRESPONDENCE

Discussion on the Canadian Hall Of Fame from the minutes of the 1999 Canadian Annual General Meeting. A copy of these minutes to go to all the clubs.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Was given by the Treasurer Dick Hopkins. Motion: Dick Hopkins, Seconded Dorothy Butts "That the report be adopted as read", vote taken, carried.
Dick stated that he will be away for two months next summer (June and July) and Denis Kirichenko will be his replacement.
Memberships from the clubs will go to the Secretary first. A letter will go out in March to this effect.

Dick presented his proposed budget for the coming year. Dicussion and questions. Motion: Dick Hopkins, Seconded Marcel Pinette "That the budget be adpoted as read" vote taken, carried.

RAFFLE - DISBURSEMENT FOR 1999

Motion: Dick Hopkins, Seconded Louis Levesque "That the funds be disbursed as follows:" vote taken, carried

40% ($600) For the B.C. Championships

25% ($375) For the B.C. International

25% ($375) For the Travel Fund (Canadian/World)

10%($150) For the junior fund

Motion: Fred Ormiston, Seconded Dorothy Butts "That a letter be sent to the 1999 Provincial Champions saying funds are available through the BCHA Travel Fund if they wish to go, make application by letter, to the Secretary, by May 1, 2000" vote taken, carried.

REGIONAL REPORTS

ISLAND/POWELL RIVER - Fred Ormiston. Victoria is still active with crib, darts, etc. The bus trip in October to Reno was lots of fun. December 4th. is their Christmas Party.

Bill Roos said he talked to Stew Battie and they are adding a tool shed to the Ladysmith Horseshoe Club

The Nanaimo Horseshoe Club received a certificate of merit from the city.

NORTH - Louis Levesque reported that The Prince George Club had their storage room broken into by kids. The Parents found out and returned the materials and did the repairs

Quesnel has re-done their courts and hope to bid for the B.C. Championships for 2000 or 2001. Nothing from other clubs.

LOWER MAINLAND - Marcel Pinette. MSA (Abbotsford) had elections - President Marcel Pinette, Vice-President Syd Anderson, Treasurer Denis Kirichenko, Secretary Shelley Koppp. MSA (Abbotsford) has completed cover for 8 courts.

Cloverdale had elections - President Robin Degraaf, Vice-President Steve White, Treasurer Dale Donahue, Secretary Cheryl Degraaf. The club plays cards Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Maple Ridge Club has the same executive for another year and are still playing while the weather is good.

North Shore Club had their elections. President Erma Basaraba, Vice-President Ken Gotto, Treasurer Elyse Brunelle, Secretary Leah Lamont.

Central Park Club had their elections. President Jim Ball, Vice-President Lloyd Reyklin, Secretary Betty Reyklin, Treasurer Sam Tomasevic. Central Park had a successful 1999 season. The club has gotten a good response in forming ferry pick-up committee to encourage players to attend more tournaments from the Island clubs.

INTERIOR/KOOTNEYS - Ernie Connolly was unable to attend as he had to go to a funeral for his uncle. Our sympathies. He sent an e-mail to Sam.

Wind-up tournaments were held in Vernon, Winfield, Salmon Arm and Kamloops. Salmon Arm had theirs in the middle of the week so members could attend Kamloops.

There is a possibility that a club will be formed in 2000 in Merritt/Nicola Valley.

Roy Wellwood has moved from Kamloops to Summerland.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

SENIOR GAMES -Will be August 23-26, 2000 in Kelowna with the horseshoes being played at the Winfield Horseshoe Club

CANADIAN - The AGM minutes to go to all clubs.

The dates for the 2000 Canadian are July 25-29 in Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan.

HALL OF FAME - Fred Ormiston. The 2000 category is Player/Promoter.

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT - Nothing to report

PRESIDENTS REPORT - Sam Tomasevic. Sam said the newsletter will go out next week. He needs more input/articles/news.

We have 739 airmiles

Raffle was a scuccess again

Forms to bid on the 2001 B.C. Championships and International will be sent out soon.

The website has had 3,008 visitors. Pictures are great. Contacts for each club will be added. New ideas welcome.

Rules for the B.C. Championships will be gone over at the next meeting.

Airmiles program will be looked after by Marcel Pinette.

The % Pin Program will be looked after by Sam.

RAFFLE - The 1999 proceeds were $2,650.00 gross, $1,500.00 net.

Discussion. Decided we would again have a raffle for the year 2000 as most members feel this is a good way to raise money. Sam prizes ($400, $300, $200 and $100). Same price.

Tickets will be distributed the same way in the newsletter, about April. Bill roos will look after.

CONSTITUTION/BY-LAWS

Dorothy Will be helping Fred and Vince, and they hope to have something for next meeting.

OLD/NEW BUSINESS

Discussion - The Barriere Club did not pay the 1999 liability insurance to the BCHA. They have one year grace period (1999).

Sam brought up having a true doubles championships with percentages kept. Questions - would it be mixed or not? Where? What weekend? Something to think about as some other provinces have this.

Dorothy - Re: The Port Alberni funds. Questions - How do we prove a club is affiliated. How ddo we prove a club has a constitution? What guidelines/criteria for disbursement? Tabled to next meeting.

Discussion on a certificate program. Annie to write a letter to all clubs asking when they joined BCHA.

Motion Dick hopkins, Seconded Marcel Pinette "That we increase the mileage paid to the executive from $0.15 to $.20 per km effective January 1, 2000". Vote take, carried.

Motion Dick Hopkins, Seconded Dorothy Butts "That the signing officers be changed from Terry Robinson to Marcel Pinette" Vote take, carried.

Fred Ormiston stated that the BCHA or any club can apply for funds from lotto and casino, for such things as all trophies, costs incurred engraving, computer up-grades and maintenance, travel to "Canadian" meetings, newsletter, etc.

Discussion on raising the BCHA dues to include the cost of a newsletter to each person/houshold. Dick will do a comparison study.

GOOD AND WELFARE

Happy retirement to Ernie Connolly.

Our condolances to the families of: Art Sande (Winfield - passed away Oct. 28/99 at age 71), Albert Holland (Summerland - passed away Oct. 23/99), Gordon Hellman (Cloverdale passed away) and Al MacDonald (Victoria - passed away Nov. 19/99).

Barry Montgomery has been in for cancer treatment and is doing okay.

Clayton English has inoperable throat cancer.

Don Reed cancer is getitng worse.

Neil Yaskow fell off the roof at home landing on his wife and breaking her leg and two ribs. He hit his head on the pavement. Has head injuries and memory loss. To both of you - get well soon.

Next meeting February 26, 2000 at the same place and time.
