Great job done by the President Larry Westman and all the members of the Victoria Club. The Island Championship was hosted by Ladysmith Club. Attendance was down some due to people travelling to the Canadians. A great job by Stew battie and his crew. Nanaimo held it's first tournament - in Ladysmith. Under the leadership of Bernice Busch, the Nanaimo members put on a first class tournament. Lots of prizes and fun. Cumberland and Powell River hosted tournaments. Well attended and lots of fun. Cumberland moved theirs to a week earlier, so as not to conflict with Victoria's International. Thank you to Oliver Watkins for that. They are next years host for the Island Championships. Regional meeting was held and Fred was elected for another two years as their Rep. Thank you to Bill Roos for his help as assistant rep., and to the region for all their support. NORTH - Louis Levesque reported that all is well in the North. The Quesnel Club is busy with preparations for the BC Championships in 2001. LOWER MAINLAND - Robin Degraaf. Marcel Pinette has stepped down due to ill health. Our thanks go out to Marcel, and we wish him and Gloria all the best and a speedy recovery to them both (they had an accident on their way to the Canadian). A copy of the minutes and financial statement from the Canadian Annual General Meeting 2000, will be enclosed with these minutes to all clubs in BC. They are looking for a bid from BC for the 2004 Canadian. There were some computer problems and the results out late. Ladies Champion is Bernice Busch from Naniamo, B.C. Mens Champ is Howard Weitzel from Saskatchewan. Junior Champion is Randy Schaefer from B.C., who has now moved to Alberta WORLD TOURNAMENT - Dorothy Butts. It was hot, like 107 defrees F. It was well run, 3 shifts and on time Just over 1200 entries. Sylvianne Moissan of Quebec was the Ladies "A" Champion. A few other Canadians got into the Championship rounds, including Bernice Busch who came in 14th. 2001 World is South Hemingsly, Minnesota (since corrected to read Hibling, Minnesota). The Canadian is in Thunder Bay, almost straight north of it. Red Deer, who were bidding for the World for 2002, really put on a good show at their booth and during the tournament. They have won their bid - dates to be announced later. The Canadian will be in Calgary that year, probably just before. This will be only the second time that the World has been held out of the USA. AIR MILES - Sam Tomasevic. We have 1,072 air miles available. HALL OF FAME - Fred Ormiston. This years category is Promotor/Builder and the winner will be announced at the opening ceremonies (and it was Tom Hawkins from Victoria). Issues being dealt with include getting horseshoes recognized as a sport, as the BC Hall Of Fame does not recognize us as a sport. However, now, Jack Adams has been inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall Of Fame. The Victoria Club has been asked to a meeting with the Victoria Sports Hall Of Fame. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how this can be reversed at the BC level, please let Fred know.Fred is working on a criteria and a nominating form to make it easier for nominating someone into the Hall Of Fame. Also, this will help with their write-ups and what their accomplishemnts are/were. Any suggestions are welcome. If you would like to help with this, please let Fred know, as he would welcome help.Jim Ball has sent some of the past Hall Of Fame pictures that need to be revised. These are getting fixed so there is some consistency with their certificates.Year 2001 is Male Player.RAFFLE - Bill Roos. At this time there is $1,855.00 in and not all tickets have been returned. They will be sold on the weekend also. Draw during the prize presentations on Sunday. Cost is $1,140.00 for printing, prizes, etc. SUPPLIES - Vince Herkel. Lots of supplies on hand. The M&M horseshoes have sold well and will order more. PRESIDENTS REPORT - Sam Tomasevic. Thanked the executive for a job well done this year. We did get a grant this year, and as part of the funding, we mailed out newsletters to all the membership on record. As a result, we got about 15 new subscribers. There still seems to be a lack of communication from within some clubs with their respective members. Most of you have clubhouses, take the minutes, the entry forms, the newsletter, etc. that this organiztion send out and put it on your bulletin boards for all to see. When requesting funds for your tournaments, let everyone know that you are a club in good standing with the BCHA.We had 158 entries, and now down to 153 for various reasons. Have 27 courts to use, but, only 16 for the 30 ft pitchers, so caused some difficulties in scheduling. It seems that each year we are getting bigger and it may soon be time to re-vamp the situation. 25 courts may not be enough to run the tournament on two days unless using four shifts. Another possibility is to have some play on Monday morning (eg have the Championship classes play Sunday and Monday). I would like some feed back on this, please.I have heard rumblings and grumbling about the A and B classes having to pay the extra entry fee of $15.00 and $10.00. I have requested something in writing from these people. There is not a lot the executive can do about this unless it is in writing. The original idea came about because these classes felt there should be more pay-out.Next year my term is up for election. I stated last year that I would not be running. Have I had a change of heart, well maybe. Have I been approached by the membership in hopes that I will change my mind, yes I have. Nothing is written in stone and who knows what this forth coming year will bring. There seems to be a lot of rumors going around that the BCHA says that all A classes in tournaments must play 40 point games. We do not dictate to any club, we can give suggestions. When you have your tournament, you may use any number of points or shoes.Another issue that comes up at the Provincial Championships, is handicapping some of the classes. This is a championship and you CANNOT handicapp classes. Thanks to all the clubs for sending in your results in such a timely manner. A special thanks to John Richards of Winfield, who attends a lot of tournaments in the Interior, gathers the information, and emails me the results. Our website continues to get better. When it comes to posting results, most are done by 10PM on the Sunday night, so consider yourselves lucky and spoiled!!Lastly, I would like to thank those of you who sent flowers and well wishes to Wendy while she was in the hospital in June. We both appreciate your concerns. It is truly amazing how, when someone is ill, how much of a family all horseshoe players are. Wendy is recovering slowly and perhaps will come out on Sunday for a while (which she did).CONSTITUTION/BY-LAWS Motion by the Maple Ridge Horseshoe Club - Don Reed/Maurice Gagne that part 6 voting (a) be revised to read "each member club duly registered with the Association will be allowed the following delegates for voting purposes at the Annual General and/or any extraordinary meetings: OLD BUSINESS The affiliation certificates were presented to the clubs that had responded to the query as to when they became a member of the BCHA. Those clubs are: NEW BUSINESS Question - does the BCHA have a seal? No, but plan to get one. Question - can a junior play in a tournament with other 30 ft players? Yes, but he pays no entry fee, and cannot receive cash prize.Denis Kirichenko stated that the Abbotsford Parks and Recreation required a copy of the insurance plocies. He and Dick will look after.Ernie Connolly inquired about getting score sheets like they use at the Canadian (triple sheets). Dorothy has a copy of one, and Vince will check out the cost of single sheets.GOOD AND WELFARE Fred Whitby of Vernon passed away August 16. He was a five year member. Our condolances to his family.
