Vince Herkel
2015 Inductee


Vince Herkel was born Jan 10, 1952 in Port Alberni, BC.

In 1993 he joined the Ladysmith Horseshoe Club and started playing and got involved with Stew Battie, George Oliver and Bob Timothy in organizing teams.

His knowledge of computers and with horseshoe pitching entering the computer age he started a weekly horseshoe league.

Tournaments on Ladysmith soon had a great appeal and good numbers always turned out for these well organized and fun tournaments. Vince also organized the horseshoe event for the Senior Games whenever it was hekd in Duncan and Ladysmith.

His talents were soon notived by the BCHA. Soon he became involved on the executive of the BCHA. Vince has been a first lcass organizer and promoter of horseshoes from day one and still is doing a great job in Ladysmith. A genrleman with a humble attitude has served horseshoes well on Vancouver Island.

He worked closely with BCHA President Sam Tomasevic gettinf clubs educated with the "Shoe Program" and used his computer skills to help overcome problems. He was instrumental in helping clubs in using the Shoes program, such as Dry Creek, Cumberland and Nanaimo.

At the Canadians he worked with Dianne Beck the tournament director and also worked with BCHA President/Tournament director Sam Tomasevic on the BC International and BC Championships.

Vince was Vice President from 1996 to 2001, BCHA President from 2001 to 2003 and Past President to 2013.

Vince Promoted horseshoe pitching as a fun, competitive, social and healthy sport.

It was very important for Vince and as an executive member of the BCHA to attend as many provincial tournaments as well as out of province Canadian Championships. Vince has attended Canadian Championships in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick.

Vince helped form the Dry Creek (Port Alberni)club.

We are proud to have Vince Inducted into the BCHA Hall Of Fame.
